US. Ecommerce and omnichannel platform Grab and in-airport food and retail delivery business Airport Sherpa are launching a new service at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.
As part of a pilot programme at the airport, Grab is expanding its current mobile ordering platform with three self-order kiosks in Terminal C at gates C6, C19 and C35.
The multi-partner ecommerce kiosks offer travellers items from participating restaurants in Terminal C. Travellers can then choose to collect their order or have it delivered directly to their gate by Airport Sherpa within 20 minutes or less.
Grab’s kiosks feature two touchscreens with point-to-point encrypted payment devices on which travellers can browse and order from a selection of food & beverage partners. These include Bánh Shop, Caribou Coffee/Einstein Bros. Bagels, Chili’s, Freshens, Maggiano’s Little Italy, Pizza Hut, Shake Shack and TGI Fridays.
Once a user has made a purchase, they will receive notifications on their mobile device, updating them on their order and when it is ready for pick-up or is en route for delivery at their gate. Travellers who choose to have their order delivered to the gate will be greeted by an Airport Sherpa representative.
Dallas Fort Worth International is offering free delivery to Grab users as part of the pilot programme.
Grab Chief Experience Officer Jeff Livney said: “For the past two years, DFW travellers have used Grab to purchase food and other travel necessities for pick-up when on the go. With the new kiosks, airport guests now have the additional option to securely pay for food and relax at the gate while it is delivered.”
Airport Sherpa Co-Founder and CEO Patrick DellaValle said his company was eager to expand into Dallas Fort Worth International as its next airport location to offer travellers gate-side delivery services. He added: “In partnership with Grab, we are excited to transform the travel experience at Terminal C by providing customers with a reliable and convenient delivery service.”
Dallas Fort Worth International Airport Vice President, Concessions Zenola Campbell said: “More than half of our customers are connecting to another flight, and these kiosks will provide a convenient solution for them to order food on the go.
“DFW Airport continually looks for ways to improve the customer experience, and we will monitor the pilot programme to determine whether it will be expanded to other terminals.”
