FRANCE. Groupe Clarins previewed a wide selection of novelties, across all its brands, at last month’s TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes. “2008 will be a key year for us,” General Manager Travel Retail Worldwide Beatrice Heudier told The Moodie Report. “We have so many great products launching next year.”
Within skincare, a major first-half innovation will be the HydraQuench Multi-Climate range. This is described as a self-adjusting line, suitable for all skin types, that protects from the biting cold, the blazing heat and all types of pollution.
The range harnesses ingredients from Madagascar to the Arctic circle, to balance all skin types, in all climates, at all times, according to the group. It features an hydrating action on four levels: the skin’s surface, in the corneal layer, the epidermis and the dermis.
A vital ingredient is Katafray bark extract. The Katafray tree, found in the dry forests of Madagascar, is known for its phytotherapeutic properties. Importantly, it is part of a programme of fair trade and sustainable development. A fixed amount of its sale price goes to Clarins local partners for the set-up of projects to benefit local communities in the production region.
“The HydraQuench range has something to suit every consumer, and the products can even be changed according to the season,” noted Heudier. “We see this as an entry level line, and are confident it will attract new consumers to the brand.”
The full range comprises HydraQuench Lotion SPF15 Normal to Combination Skin or Hot Climates, HydraQuench Cream Normal to Dry Skin, HydraQuench Rich Cream Very Dry Skin or Cold Climates, HydraQuench Cooling Cream-Gel Normal to Combination Skin or Hot Climates and HydraQuench Intensive Serum Bi-Phase Dehydrated Skin.
The products are packaged in frosted blue bottles, and incorporate a delicate green floral fragrance.
Also within skincare, Clarins has unveiled Pure Melt Cleansing Gel. This will be introduced to travel retail doors in Europe, Asia and the US from January, before rolling out to the Middle East in February, followed by Australia in March.
The cleanser texture transforms during use, from a gel, to an oil, to a milk. The rinse-off formula removes even heavy make-up, yet is suitable for sensitive skin, Clarins maintains.
The key ingredient is Marula oil, from the Marula tree found in sub-equatorial Africa. Extracted from the seeds of the fruit, Marula oil is said to help reinforce the skin barrier, and improve its hydration, thanks to its high content of oleic and fatty acids.
Within make-up, Clarins will refresh its offer with an eye-catching spring collection called Colour Fizz., available in travel-retail from January. “This will contain bright, high-fashion shades,” commented Heudier, “in addition to innovative “˜fixing’ products.”
Clarins has repackaged its eye shadows, to create a Single Eye Colour collection. There are 12 shades, in pearl, matte and satin effects. Colour Fizz incorporates limited-edition shades of Sunny Yellow and Sweet Lilac.
Complementing these are limited-edition shades of Gloss Appeal lip gloss, Eyeliner and Eye Pencil.
The collection features the new Fix’ Make-Up, a micro-mist spray which fixes and brightens make-up, and ensures long-lasting wear. The product also refreshes and hydrates, and can be used throughout the day for extra freshness.
This is joined by Double Fix’ Mascara, an invisible fixing gel that waterproofs regular mascara and eye pencil. It can be used on lashes and brows.
Within other segments, Clarins will relaunch its sun range, in line with new European regulations. And it will introduce an innovative body serum that can be mixed with any regular body cream or lotion to create a slimming product.
On the fragrance front, for Azzaro next year the group will introduce Chrome Legend, ten years after the introduction of the original Azzaro Chrome. Another key introduction will be the men’s skincare collection Azzaro Skinforce.
For Thierry Mugler, the feminine fragrance Alien will be updated with a one-shot scent, while Amen will be refreshed with a Pure Coffee fragrance, complete with scented packaging.
“To celebrate its 15th anniversary, we will repackage Angel,” noted Heudier, “to be ready for the next 15 years. We have reworked the Mugler logo, and slightly altered the shade of blue. We have also created a new body range with a silver colour-scheme.”
Lastly, the group unveiled the new Thierry Mugler Beauty collection at the show. This features an avant-garde assortment of unusual make-up items dubbed “The Art of Metamorphosis”, plus a quintet of high-end fragrances called “Miroir, Miroir” (Mirror Mirror), which together form the Dare the Metamorphosis concept.
