Cult global aperitif: Aperol Spritz |
Gruppo Campari is staging a new promotion for its Aperol brand which will be featured at key European airports during summer 2012.
The Aperol Spritz ‘Beach’ campaign is running in the Schengen area of Milan Malpensa Airport, showcasing the Aperol Spritz aperitif to travellers for two months until 30 June.
This is the first of a series of installations taking place in Rome Fiumicino, Munich, Frankfurt and Antalya airports between June and August 2012.
The bright orange colour of Aperol is reflected in the design of the Aperol Spritz “˜Beach’ installation, which is designed to bring colour and sunshine to the selected airports, Gruppo Campari said.
Travellers can recreate summer on the beach as they enjoy complimentary samples of Aperol Spritz while they relax on beach chairs under palm trees.
The campaign aims to encapsulate the fresh, light-hearted nature of Aperol Spritz by providing a fun, beach- themed experience designed to be shared with friends.
The Aperol Spritz drink is made with Prosecco poured into an ice-filled glass, combined with Aperol and a splash of soda water before being garnished with a slice of fresh orange. Described as light and refreshing, the recipe comprises three parts Prosecco DOC, two parts Aperol and a dash of soda.

About Aperol
Thanks to its versatility, Aperol has become the best-selling spirit in Italy and continues to enjoy strong growth in Italy and overseas. The drink evokes the Italian lifestyle, from the aperitif hour to an evening in the piazza. Today, the Aperol Spritz is becoming a cult aperitif globally, according to brand owner Gruppo Campari.
During its 2011 annual conference held in Warsaw, the International Bartenders Association added Spritz Veneziano, which features Aperol, into its Official Drinks. The IBA Official Drinks includes the list of cocktails selected by the association as the most notable cocktails made by professional bartenders worldwide.
Dubbed by Gruppo Campari the “orange wave”, the Aperol Spritz craze started in Venice and Veneto, and then hit all of Italy, and it is now spreading to Germany, Austria, Switzerland and beyond. More international bartenders are including the drink in their menus, the company said.
