CHINA. Haikou’s Xiuying District government distributed the latest round of duty-free consumption vouchers on 28 November in a bid to stimulate year-end shopping in Haikou and aid the recovery of Hainan’s offshore duty-free sector.
In related news, sector powerhouse China Duty Free Group (CDFG) kicked off its annual CDF Hainan Offshore Duty Free Shopping Gala, running from 21 November to 6 January.
Synergy between government and enterprise
The government vouchers are distributed exclusively on social media platform Douyin and offer various discounts. Customers of Beijing Bank, China Merchants Bank and Shanghai Bank can enjoy additional payment benefits, including extra points, cashback and extra discounts.
CDFG said the vouchers are a powerful booster for its own year-end promotion which spans several popular holidays including Double 12 (a shopping event akin to Single’s Day), Christmas and New Year’s, and feature a “seamless blend of retail promotions and interactive experiences”.
CDFG commented: “The consumption vouchers issued by the Xiuying District Government and CDFG’s own campaign will together create a fun-filled year-end shopping feast for residents and tourists.
“We hope this synergy will ignite a new wave of duty-free consumption and unleash the potential of holiday spending.”
A flurry of promotions
The promotional events are in full swing at cdf malls as part of CDFG’s Shopping Gala, divided into three main categories: ‘Weekly Top Picks’, ‘Shopping Spree’ and ‘BigDay Year-End Carnival’.
Weekly Top Picks features 12 best-selling products each week, each presented at the lowest price all year.
Shopping Spree offers discounts of up to -50% on selected beauty and skincare products, up to -40% off Chinese beauty brands and -70% off selected liquors, plus extra points when purchasing the new Autumn/Winter collections from selected fashion brands.
The culmination of the campaign is the five-day BigDay Year-End Carnival, running from 27 December to 31 December and featuring flash sales on bestsellers, storewide discounts and limited-time extra points.
Innovative shopping scenarios
Apart from an array of shopping benefits and offers, this year’s CDF Year-End Campaign also focuses on creating unique consumption scenarios and exciting, interactive experiences.
At cdf Haikou International Duty Free Shopping Complex, the Year-End Carnival sees CDFG team up for the first time with Pop Mart’s popular cartoon character DIMOO, incorporating its image into in-store decorations, displays and selfie spots, designed to create a whimsical and welcoming atmosphere for shoppers.
The event also bring together over 200 brands for a series of online and offline activities. Customers can participate through the cdf Members mini-program, or receive an event guide at the physical store to take part in the activities and enjoy experiences and exclusive gifts.
At cdf Sanya’s newly opened Malt & More Whisky by cdf whisky museum, whisky lovers can enjoy Happy Hour every Friday and Sunday throughout the campaign and get half price for their second glass.
The event also includes whisky tastings and art talks, providing an opportunity for consumers to gain a deeper appreciation of the spirit.
As the year-end holidays approach, Hainan is gearing up for its last peak tourist season of 2024. “As one of the biggest events of Hainan’s offshore duty-free industry, the CDF Year-End Campaign, with the generous support of the Xiuying District Government, has successfully promoted the appeal of Hainan duty-free shopping to worldwide audiences,” CDFG said.
“This has been achieved through our innovative and diverse promotional events and immersive shopping experiences, making it a must-do for many visitors to Hainan.” ✈
