JAPAN. A new commercial complex that houses Japan’s largest airport hotel, an open-air bath, and an array of retail and food & beverage outlets has opened next to Tokyo’s Haneda airport, according to Kyodo News.
Among the stores that have opened to date are Victorinox, Guess, Esthe Pro Labo, Beauty Connection, and a wide range of other popular local brands and restaurants.
The long overdue opening of Haneda Airport Garden comes amid Japan’s efforts to lure back tourists after the country’s long-running and tough travel restrictions were eased last year. It was initially scheduled to be unveiled in April 2020 but was delayed by the pandemic.
The large-scale mixed-use development complex features a 12-storey compound directly connecting to the airport’s Terminal 3, which serves international passengers.
It includes a Villa Fontaine-brand hotel with 1,717 rooms, one of the largest in Japan on an airport location, according to its developer Sumitomo Realty and Development Co.
The Haneda Airport Garden also features 90 retail outlets, including 60 shops, 30 restaurants and a food court, as well as a MICE-compatible event hall and conference rooms.
The top floor of the hotel complex features a natural hot spring offering a view of Mt. Fuji.
An all-weather bus terminal connects the airport with regional cities and tourist destinations across Japan.
