Heathrow head office-based NHS vaccine centre set to scale up operations

UK. Over 16,000 people have now received first dose COVID-19 vaccines in the Heathrow Mass Vaccination Centre. The facility has been set up in space in Heathrow Airport’s head office in partnership with Central and North West London NHS.

The encouraging number has been achieved in the first five weeks of operation and capacity will increase to 1,000 vaccines a day from this week. Heathrow said the vaccine centre has the ability to eventually scale up to 5,000 first doses a day, when a higher level of vaccine supply becomes available.

To set up the centre – which operates for 12 hours, seven days week – Heathrow worked alongside representatives from Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals. This included the time of Heathrow’s security, property, landside road, engineering and business change teams, with the NHS responsible for completing the fit out of the facility.

Heathrow Retail & Property Director Fraser Brown told The Moodie Davitt Report: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Heathrow to contribute to helping the NHS’s fight against the virus. Taking the COVID-19 vaccine is the most powerful thing we can do to protect ourselves, our friends, families and communities and help us get back to doing the things we love.”
