AUSTRALIA. Heinemann Australia has opened a 200sq m store at Gold Coast Airport’s domestic terminal. It opens ahead of the December and January festive period, when the airport is expected to serve more than 1.2 million passengers. The move was first flagged in our story from the Australian Airports Association Retail & Commercial Forum in Brisbane in July.
Building on its existing footprint in the international terminal, which opened in 2018, Heinemann’s full fashion & accessories range is now available at Gold Coast Airport’s domestic terminal. The line-up includes 22 brands from international luxury to Australian products, with a full beauty range joining the offer soon.
The new shop adopts a similar look and feel to Heinemann’s international terminal store and Gold Coast Airport’s Coast to Hinterland design concept, through materials, textures and a colour palette that aims to evoke the region’s distinctive landscape of beaches, rainforests and mountains.
Products and brand highlights include local brands All Kinds, PE Nation, The Upside and Frank Green, all new to domestic travel retail. Heinemann also introduces Australian luxury resortwear brand Camilla to Gold Coast Airport for the first time, following the brand’s launch into international duty free at Heinemann’s Sydney store.
Heinemann Australia Managing Director George Tsoukalas commented: “Our new presence in Gold Coast Airport and soon in Sydney Airport domestically allows us to reach out to a larger consumer base. We can offer more brands and value-added services like home delivery, all enhancing the customer experience.
“This new move to extend our domestic reach to Gold Coast Airport was only possible because of our strong collaboration and relationship with our airport partner. We are delighted to have the opportunity to deepen our partnership with them.”
Queensland Airports Limited Chief Commercial Officer Adam Rowe added: “Heinemann’s new store forms part of the ongoing upgrades we’re undertaking within our domestic terminal helping to provide our customers with more choice and an improved retail experience.
“The extension of our partnership with Heinemann was a natural collaboration given the success of the international store since its opening last year.”
The opening of Heinemann’s new domestic store is part of a A$500 million transformation of the Gold Coast Airport precinct, and coincides with the arrival of Bonza Airlines, a new low-cost airline, which adds 84 additional flights a week and more than 800,000 additional passenger seats a year. Launched at Gold Coast Airport in November, Bonza’s new base is estimated to be worth more than A$300 million to the Queensland economy.
Customers at Heinemann’s Gold Coast domestic terminal store can also take advantage of Click & Collect, and its relaunched Heinemann & Me Loyalty programme in Australia. The revamped loyalty programme has added new partners at Sydney Airport with more to come in the Gold Coast. ✈
