GERMANY. Heinemann Duty Free has announced the winner of a competition in its Great Blue Open promotional campaign at Hamburg Airport.

The competition was part of a new branding concept launched at Hamburg Airport in December 2008 – a concept that is being extended to Frankfurt Airport in October.

60 year-old Lilly Herwald won a two-week cruise worth around €6,000 onboard the three-master Sea Cloud II. The prize trip was one element of the Great Blue Open campaign, in which a nautical theme was brought to all Heinemann Duty Free promotional stages.

With large white sails, deckchairs and the chance to learn tying knots in rope, Heinemann opened up the world of seafaring for air passengers.

Heinemann Duty Free Retail Manager Ulrike Dördelmann commented: “The Heinemann’s Choice promotional stages consistently offer customers something special that they wouldn’t expect from a duty free shop. This includes some exceptional prize drawings, such as the cruise aboard the square-rigger.

“Our ideas have captured the imagination of travellers, and we’ve already noticed they are now spending much longer in our shops,” she added.
