Heinemann Duty Free upgrades retail at Cologne Bonn Airport Terminal 1

The 4711 shop-in-shop brings a homegrown brand to the airport

GERMANY. Heinemann Duty Free has reopened its main store at Cologne Bonn Airport Terminal 1 following a major investment. Three separate zones have now been combined into a walk-through retail space just after security. The retailer pledged to deliver “maximum clarity, special promotional spaces for new products and even greater savings for customers”.

Among the new services are free beauty consultations – including quick make-up sessions – in a special Make Up Corner. There is also a Tasting Bar for sampling spirits on promotion.

One international first is a 90sq m shop-in-shop developed for Heinemann to showcase 4711, the well-known traditional German Eau de Cologne. The design reproduces the brand’s blue and gold colour scheme. Travellers can now browse the 4711 range developed and recently expanded by Mäurer & Wirtz.

Gebr. Heinemann Co-Owner Gunnar Heinemann said: “Today we are delighted to be opening our redesigned shop with the management team of Cologne Bonn Airport, our partner of many years. This airport is the birthplace of our airport retail business. This is where we took a chance on duty free retail in 1969, a new business area to us at the time.”

Cologne Bonn Airport CEO Michael Garvens added: “With its walk-through concept, this bigger, brighter, modernised shop is a flagship for Terminal 1. The area that stages the world renowned 4711 Eau de Cologne is a special treat – its design combines the traditions of Cologne with the zeitgeist spirit.”
