Hennessy has released its limited editions for Lunar New Year, the result of a collaboration between the Cognac house and Paris-based Chinese artist Yan Pei-Ming. The Year of the Rabbit expressions cover Hennessy VSOP, Hennessy Paradis and Hennessy X.O.
To honour the Year of the Rabbit, the Cognac maker commissioned Yan to paint ‘The Great Race,’ an homage to the Chinese zodiac bestiary which “celebrates the power of culture.”
It depicts the zodiac animals galloping in unison, evoking a message of freedom, inclusion, and interconnectedness. It highlights the rabbit and all the 12 animals of the zodiac. The Lunar New Year editions feature elements of this special artwork.
Yan said, “When you hold a bottle of Cognac up to sunlight, its hues and transparency vary so much. I wanted to portray Cognac — but it’s light that is really the colour of this painting.”
Inspired by the many eaux-de-vie and hues present in Hennessy Cognac, Yan has used a new palette here that features Cognac amber, orange, russet and burgundy tones.
The most prized in this collection is the one-litre Hennessy Paradis in a porcelain decanter which is hand-crafted by Maison Bernardaud.
Each decanter is handcrafted in Limoges porcelain and produced in an exclusive series of 888 decanters, each housed in a precious wooden case.
