CYPRUS. “The quality of the works is remarkable and I believe that Pafos will finally acquire an air terminal capable of supporting its needs as a tourist destination.” That was the reaction of Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos, who visited the new terminal at Pafos Airport last week.
The new terminal is operated under a 25-year build-operate-transfer contract by Hermes Airports. Retail activities are operated by CTC-ARI Airports.
During the visit the President was briefed on the works schedule by Hermes Airports and representatives of the construction company Bouygues Batiment International.
“The work taking place here is very satisfying,” the President added. “The work schedule is being fully implemented as agreed.”
As part of a €622 million investment programme, new passenger terminals will open at Pafos in November 2008 and at Larnaka in November 2009, in addition to significant upgrading of existing passenger terminals.
Hermes Airports Ltd is an international consortium of nine shareholders, bringing local and international expertise to the project. The shareholders are Bouygues Batiment International (22%), Egis Projects (20%), Cyprus Trading Corporation Public Limited (11.34%), Hellenic Mining (11.33%), Vancouver Airport Services (11%), Aer Rianta International (11%), Iacovou Brothers Construction (5.665%), Charilaos Apostolides Public Limited (5.665%) and Aeroport Nice Cote d’ Azur Chambre de Commerce et d’Industrie (2%).
