Sunil Tuli, Group CEO of King Power Group (Hong Kong) and President of the Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association (APTRA), has surpassed his initial US$35,000 fundraising goal for his forthcoming hike to Mount Everest Base Camp to raise funds for international cleft charity, Smile Train.
In just four days following the official launch of the venture and the unveiling of a dedicated website page, US$35,814 had been raised by midnight on 5 July.
The hike, first announced at The Moodie Davitt Report’s Smile Raising charity dinner in Singapore on 6 May, will see the industry veteran climb to 5,400 metres over 14 days in September.
Now Tuli aims to go much higher – in fundraising terms not metres – with a reset goal of US$45,000. You can donate by clicking here.
Every cent raised will go directly to the Smile Train clinic at B&B Hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal, which Tuli and his wife Shikha visited earlier this year. No costs of any kind will come off the total amount raised.
Tuli said, “I launched the campaign to raise US$35,000 for Smile Train children’s cleft lip and palate surgeries and it’s amazing that this target has been achieved in such a short time, mostly through the generosity of friends and colleagues from the travel retail industry, and of course personal family and friends of mine.
“I’m increasing this goal to US$45k now, and as that is achieved, I will keep increasing it further. The more we raise, the more lives we change. I look forward to continued support from the industry in particular and a sincere and heartfelt thanks to those who have contributed so far.
“Also, thanks to The Moodie Davitt Report for helping me achieve this goal, not only by being the first (and very generous donor) but by promoting the campaign.” ✈
