The new closed pack now features two tins put sideways to each other with a larger, double-sized facing and a relatively smaller health warning |
NETHERLANDS. Faced with growing competition from other tobacco brands and the mandatory display of European Union health warnings on tobacco packagings, Henri Wintermans Cigars has come up with innovative new packaging for the full Café Crème range, to be shown at TFWA in Cannes next month.
The travel retail-exclusive pack is also intended to deliver an improvement in the popular brand’s in-store/on-shelf presentation. It will begin to replace the current outer pack which has been used for over three decades, though the latter will be retained for certain cases.
“This is a historic moment, not only for our company, but also for our trade partners and consumers,” Area Marketing Manager Travel Retail Erwin Broeren told The Moodie Report. “For over thirty years the outer pack used for domestic market distribution was the same pack used in travel retail.”
Regarding the new design, the company explained: “For small packs’ facings, the surface of the health warning is relatively big versus facings that exceed 75sq cm. For the latter surfaces, health warnings are limited to 22.5sq cm.
“The new closed pack now features two tins put sideways to each other with a larger, double-sized facing and a relatively smaller health warning. The side shows the actual size cigar and gives the brand description in two languages. The back of the packaging displays the Café Crème five world cities panel advertising, relating to the “˜The World’s Everyday Pleasure’.”
The inside of the pack is also used for cigar education, carrying information on how to enjoy cigars, and on the anatomy of cigars.
The new pack carries five tins of the Café Crème variant, with an interior highlighting the brand range. Henri Wintermans says the interior space can be used for promotions. The first will be displayed at the Cannes show this October.
“Most operators will first get their new Café Crème 100s packs just after Christmas and New Year, depending on their ordering patterns and stock positions in our bonded warehouses around the world,” the company said. “Selected key accounts will get their stocks in before the holiday season. The aim is to have full distribution around early spring 2005. There are alternatives for accounts selling Café Crème per tin rather than per 100s pack.”
