HONG KONG, CHINA. Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) served 4.23 million passengers in April, a leap of +35.9% year-on-year, representing nearly 65% of pre-pandemic 2019 levels.
That’s according to latest data released today by Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK).
The airport company reported 29,055 aircraft movements last month, up by +34.7% on the same period last year.
The notable increases were attributed to the long Easter holidays starting at the end of March, boosting traffic volume among all passenger segments.
Southeast Asia, Mainland China and Japan recorded the strongest passenger growth by market during the month.
From January to April, the airport welcomed 16.9 million passengers, a rise of +67.5% against a low base in the same period in 2023.
Aircraft movements from Hong Kong Airport stood at 115,285, a year-on-year increase of +55.3% during the last four months.
On a 12-month rolling basis, the airport served 46.3 million passengers, marking a +200.9% growth from the previous comparable period.
Aircraft movements climbed by +83.9% to 317,150 on a 12-month rolling basis.
In April, Hong Kong Airlines introduced a new direct flight service connecting HKIA and Vientiane Wattay International Airport in Laos. The airline operates two flights per week.
AAHK Chief Operating Officer Vivian Cheung said: “We are glad that one of our home-based carriers has launched a new direct flight service between Hong Kong and Vientiane, the first to Laos after the pandemic.
“Strategically located at the centre of Southeast Asia, Laos is an important member of the Belt and Road Initiative. Both business travellers and tourists are expected to benefit from this further extension of HKIA’s air network to Laos.” ✈
