Hong Kong Airport tenders multiple books store concession

The airport is offering ten book shops for tender

HONG KONG. Hong Kong International Airport has issued a tender for its major book store concession, covering ten locations in terminals 1 and 2.

The stores range in size from 35sq m to 168sq m, with eight of the ten units airside.

The airport company said the tender “presents a unique business opportunity for retailers to operate bookshops in this prestigious aviation hub in Asia”. It noted the airport’s “affluent mix of passengers from all over the world, with over 45% being executives, professionals and proprietors”.

The deadline for bids is 12 August.

Relay (LS travel retail Asia) has operated the majority of the news & books concessions there for over 12 years and plans to defend the business strongly, The Moodie Report understands. Page One also runs multiple book stores.

HKIA is tendering a number of key commercial spaces. As reported, among the other tenders out to bid currently is a two-store luxury boutique contract in T1 airside, with shops of 284sq m and 133sq m available. The deadline for this tender is 31 July.

HKIA handled 63.3 million passengers in 2014, up by +5.8% year-on-year.
