USA. Dufry-owned duty free and travel retailer Hudson Group has won a 10-year contract extension at Burlington International Airport (BTV), in the state of Vermont in the US. The City of Burlington approved the deal today.
Hudson has been the incumbent retailer at BTV since 2003, through a joint-venture agreement covering 3,182sq ft (296sq m) of retail space. The joint venture, HG Burlington, is a partnership between Hudson Group and Branded Works Inc (a certified Airport Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Program company).
Retail concepts represented in the extension include three Vermont-focused travel essentials and convenience stores: Discover Vermont/Hudson (located pre-security), Lake Champlain News (post-security near Gate 11), and Mount Mansfield News (post-security).
Discover Vermont/Hudson sells traditional travel essentials and convenience items, as well as locally-made Vermont gifts and souvenirs. Lake Champlain News, which pays tribute to the historic natural freshwater lake that runs between New York and Vermont, offers a variety of snacks and beverages, portable electronics, travel accessories, and Vermont-specific souvenirs. Mount Mansfield News features a product assortment ranging from reading materials, and healthy grab-and-go meals and snacks, to travel necessities, electronics souvenirs.
Joseph DiDomizio, President and CEO of Hudson Group, described the retail at BTV as a “customised and local approach”. This was reinforced by Gene Richards, Director of Aviation at BTV, who said: “With iconic New England tourist destinations just minutes and hours away from BTV, Hudson Group’s localised retail concept of ‘Vermont Reinforcing Vermont’ provides passengers with a sense of place.”
