GERMANY. German fashion house Hugo Boss has unveiled its Autumn/Winter 2007/08 collections for men and women. Both major on Far Eastern themes.
Boss Black menswear and accessories
Inspired by the Asia Pacific region, the collection is understated and sophisticated, with a balanced and restrained colour palette. Tailoring is clean, sharp and elegant, freshened by an emerging sportswear aesthetic. Luxury fabrics and technical fabrics are combined.

The contrast of matte and shine is highlighted, with natural fabrics combined with new nylons for outerwear or cashwool and viscose mixed for knitwear. Proportions are also mixed up, with oversized parkas worn over slim pants.
The collection is completed by a full range of accessories, such as shoes, belts, bags and briefcases.
In addition, the Hugo Boss Lifestyle accessories collection features a small selection of pieces that make perfect gifts, the company says.
This season includes scented candles with matching leather travel cases, CD and nanopod carrier cases, playing cards and a nappa leather backgammon set.
Boss Selection
This collection for men draws inspiration from a college boy look, made ultra-luxurious and ultra-exclusive with a wide range of the finest fabrics available. Casual cardigan jackets are made from double-face cashmere, while a parka has a fur-lined hood.

Influences include Hong Kong, British punk and early 1980s fashion. Inventive details and witty references are the main characteristics.
The Chinglish theme centres on the mix of Chinese and English in Hong Kong, creating a collection where styles and materials are mixed and matched “with bold abandon”, says Hugo Boss: technical with natural, vinyl and metallic. T-shirts feature Chinese dragons, skulls and Oriental lettering.
The China Club collection is smarter, with refined colours. The fit is sharp and tight, even for denim. Jackets have a day-into-evening look.
The “funky formal” Handcrafted collection features a wide choice of fabrics such as ramie-cotton pinstripe suits, wool double-breasted waistcoats and classic trenches. Jumpers are available in baby alpaca, while tees come in sheer cashmere.

The womenswear collection also looks East for inspiration. The collection covers all options, from urban tailoring (Urban Sharp) through to the relaxed, mix-and-match soft shapes (Natural Sharp) and a focused eveningwear offer (Evening Sharp).
The emphasis is on the waist, with the belt a key accessory, either slim or oversized.
Accessories take their lead from these themes, with high-heeled shoes and boots, chic belts and bags and flat shoes and big leather bags for winter.

Influences include Hong Kong, British punk and early 1980s fashion.
The Chinglish collection features core colours of black and white, with strong fluoro green, pink and orange.
The oversized proportions of the 1980s are reflected in Scottish tartans mixed with vinyl and metal. Long and short are contrasted: extra-long or very short tees, with Punk Princess prints.
Versatility is key. Cropped jackets have detachable sleeves, while oversized parkas include detachable Chinese jackets.
The China Club collection has a polished, sophisticated look with asymmetric cuts, origami-style detailing and more volume to shapes.
Skirt suits are softened with kimono-style sleeves, while pleated loose pants taper to slim legs. Jacquards add a decorative touch for evening to waistcoats and blazers.
Gold is a highlight colour, on dresses, skirts and cardigans. Gold also dominates the accessories, particularly shoes and bags.
