Hugo Boss names Lahrs as new CEO – 19/05/08

GERMANY. Christian Dior Couture CEO Claus-Dietrich Lahrs has been named the new head of Hugo Boss, although he will not take up the post until August. The top job at the German menswear-to-accessories firm has been vacant since Bruno Sälzer quit in February following strategy disagreements with the company’s private equity owner Permira.

“My goal is to bring more of an international presence to the brand, in the large and growing markets of Asia and America,” Lahrs, who has held his current post at LVMH since late 2003, said.

Giuseppe Vita, head of Hugo Boss’s supervisory board, praised Lahrs in the official statement announcing his appointment: “Claus-Dietrich Lahrs is the ideal choice for the position of CEO. He is experienced in brand management in the premium and luxury segment of the fashion industry, he is internationally acting and he is a manager with great sales expertise. In total, he brings all management skills to the table in order to move Hugo Boss to the next level of success.”

Lahrs described his new job as “the fulfilment of a life’s dream” and referred to the many “entrepreneurial opportunities” at the firm.
