GERMANY. Leading German fashion house Hugo Boss has unveiled its first Boss Orange collection for women.

The complete line for Spring/Summer 2006 includes jackets, dresses, footwear and jewellery. Every piece comes with a “message” in paper and an orange stone heart.

The first theme is Savage, inspired by the North African desert. Pieces are washed and garment-dyed to add softness. Palm tree sunset prints are used, while ribbon stripes decorate jersey tops and vegetable dyeing creates an uneven effect on T-shirts. Lightweight jersey sweatshirts and dresses are easy-wear pieces. An eclectic collection of jewellery includes necklaces, chains and identity bracelets.

The second, more upbeat theme is named Rock the Casbah. “Rebel Queen” and heraldic prints are used on T-shirts, softened by a fuchsia print of a woman’s face. Romanticism is also a key theme, with a halterneck dress in washed silk with ribbon details.

Denim is a strong feature of Boss Orange Womenswear, with five fits ranging from low-rise straight-legged jeans to men’s cuts with big pockets. Also highlighted are short skirts in five-pocket styles, hot pants and jean jackets. The non-denim line features pleated skirts in light washed-out prints.

Jewellery includes necklaces and bracelets with many different motifs and details.

Meanwhile, understated elegance and femininity characterise the new 2006 pre-Spring Boss Woman Black collection.

Intense rich colours, including aquarius, electric blue and rosebud are contrasted with toned-down yet rich neutrals such as oyster and dove grey. An eclectic retro-romantic flower print is offered in two colour stories: aquarius and rosebud. Light fabrics such as cotton silk blends and crinkled chiffon bring a fresh look to the collection. Multi-coloured summer tweeds contrast with mercerised cotton pieces. The new season’s jackets have a looser fit, showing gathered seams mixed with safari pockets. Trousers vary from skinny leg and boot-cut to wide-legged, loose-fit trousers

The main Spring/Summer 2006 Boss Woman Black collection is about modern chic with a sporty touch. A pared-down silhouette is enhanced with decorative touches and details, and pretty prints. Cotton, cotton-linen and silk mixes are offered.

The collection draws on the company’s tailoring heritage, with well-cut suits and jackets, together with pretty dresses, skirts and blouses for high summer. Jackets are often cropped with high buttoning. Jersey and knitwear play an important role, while the much-expanded accessories range includes bags, belts, shoes and jewellery.

The themes are called Light Fantastic – cool, elegant and sporty; Spirit of the Sun – cool suits in cotton-linen, linen-viscose and linen-silk mixes; Modern Deauville – For high summer, pieces with a relaxed, chic spirit, moving away from tailoring.

Offbeat combinations are a big statement, such as tailoring with T-shirts, clean fabrics alongside washed. Colours include black and white, washed sand, blues and greens with accents of fuchsia, orange and aquamarine. Alongside elegant tailoring, leather for summer grows in importance. A full collection of accessories, including bags, shoes and belts complements the look.

The Boss Hugo Boss collection has the themes Miami Chic, with dressed-up sportswear in black and white, plus a capsule collection of lifestyle accessories, including silver-plated cocktail straws, scented candles and cocktail napkins; and Havana Heat, comprising elegant tailoring with the focus on linen and cotton with shiny qualities.

Boss Orange for men, targeted at a new, younger customer, has the themes Dune, inspired by North Africa with cotton and linen as the key fabrics; and Rock the Casbah, featuring big, aggressive checks on unstructured jackets and a destroyed-look jacket, as well as T-shirts, jersey polo-shirts, and sweatshirts.

The Boss Orange collection features an expanded selection of pieces “handcrafted for purists”, according to the firm. Hand-stitching and little details define the pieces. Handcrafted unconstructed suits in classic checks are crumpled and full of character with patchwork silk linings, while denim incorporates vintage-inspired fabrics and hand-stitch details.
