World number one golfer Martin Kaymer |
GERMANY. Hugo Boss has struck a long-term partnership with champion golfer Martin Kaymer, who recently achieved world number one status.
Kaymer recently showed off the German fashion house’s Boss Green sports line in an exclusive photo shoot in Abu Dhabi at the Yas Links golf course, where he played at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship in January as defending champion.
The Boss Green apparel collection features premium performance fabrics, technical details and sporty fits.
As well as endorsing Boss Green at tournaments, Martin Kaymer will wear outfits from the main Boss Black collection at all official functions, the company said. He will also feature in photoshoots, adverts, events and promotions at the company’s numerous stores around the globe and on its various online platforms.
In addition, Hugo Boss will be developing a new collection in conjunction with the 26-year-old German golfer, which will bear his name and be available at the Hugo Boss online store and numerous Boss Green points of sale worldwide.
“Hugo Boss has maintained close links with the golfing world for many years. By launching a long-term association with Martin Kaymer, we are resolutely reaffirming this strategy – and ensuring that our Boss Green line is a presence on the world’s leading golf courses for years to come. Outstanding skills, a professional outlook and a likeable personality make Martin Kaymer an ideal brand ambassador for Hugo Boss,” commented Hugo Boss AG Senior Vice President Communication Philipp Wolff.
“I’m delighted to be teaming up with Hugo Boss,” said Kaymer. “The company is synonymous with excellent quality and fashion innovation. It can also look back on a long golfing tradition, having already worked together with outstanding players like Seve Ballesteros and Bernhard Langer. I feel proud and privileged to be following in their footsteps.”
Having only joined the professional ranks at the end of 2005, Martin Kaymer ended his first season on the European Tour in an impressive 41st position. On his first outing in 2008 at the Abu Dhabi Championship, Kaymer celebrated his first victory on the European Tour, making him the youngest-ever German to win a tournament on Europe’s professional golf circuit. In June 2008 he also became the first German – and the youngest-ever player – to win the BMW International Open in Munich, helping him to claim eighth place on the European Tour.
In 2009 he won two consecutive victories at the Open de France and the Scottish Open and, last year, the gifted Kaymer celebrated numerous triumphs in his most successful season to date. Impressive wins at the Abu Dhabi Championship in January, the KLM Open in September and the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in October, plus several other top ten finishes, made Kaymer the dominant player on the 2010 European Tour – enabling him to claim overall victory in the Race to Dubai.
Together with Graeme McDowell from Northern Ireland, he was named the “Race to Dubai European Tour Golfer of the Year” for 2010. He crowned his season with a victory at the United States PGA Championship in Wisconsin, during August 2010 – becoming only the second German to win a major after Bernhard Langer.
He made his Ryder Cup debut in October, helping the Europeans to defeat the US team in Wales.
