UK. Ian Macleod Distillers has partnered with Dufry to launch a travel retail exclusive Rosebank Vintage 1990 in World Duty Free stores at London Heathrow, Edinburgh and Glasgow airports.
The rare edition is limited to 200 bottles globally. This first listing in Europe follows launches with DFS at Singapore Changi Airport T3 in March 2020 and Le Clos at Dubai International Airport in October 2020.
The 70cl Rosebank Vintage 1990 (ABV 48%) is presented in an ornate bottle which features engraved rose detail in a red wooden cylinder which includes an authenticity. Tasting notes include citrus, spearmint and apple aromas, white chocolate and tropical notes with a crisp rich finish.
The vintage expression was cask-filled in 1990, prior to the 1993 closure of the original distillery. It was the first release to the trade under IMD ownership and, according to Ian McLeod Distillers, marks the distillery’s global revival.
As reported, Rosebank ceased production in 1993 when former owner, United Distillers & Vintners (now Diageo), closed the site, with its maltings converted into a restaurant. Ian Macleod Distillers acquired the distillery and the remaining stocks in October 2017 and is in the process of rebuilding the distillery and creating a state-of-the-art visitor centre on the original site. Dubbed the ‘King of the Lowlands’, Rosebank is regarded as the gold standard for the Lowland single malt category and is known famous for its smooth, fruity character and contrasting light but full flavour. |
World Duty Free Liquor Category Buyer Paul Martin said: “We are delighted to celebrate the renaissance of Rosebank with Ian Macleod Distillers. We anticipate an overwhelming response from our international clientele of enthusiasts and collectors.”
Ian Macleod Distillers Travel Retail Director William Ovens added: “We are honoured to bring this historic whisky back to life.
“Rosebank Vintage 1990 is one of the world’s rarest and most prestigious single malts and offers something new to the luxury whisky category. We are delighted to partner with World Duty Free to make this prized whisky available once again.”
