Icebox Café brings flavours of the Mediterranean to Miami Airport

USA. Miami-based Icebox Café has opened a new quick serve concept called The Mediterranean Kitchen at Miami International Airport (MIA) Terminal D Gate D28.

Opened on 6 April and operating daily from 6am to 11pm, The Mediterranean Kitchen offers a selection of healthy, natural, “˜grab and go’ food and drinks inspired by the flavours of the Mediterranean region.

This is the first location for the new concept, which is also Icebox Café’s third airport project and second airport concession at MIA. The first airport Icebox Café opened in 2010 at MIA’s Terminal D. The group also operates a bakery concept at Dallas/Fort Worth International Terminal A, with a second concept location slated to open this year in Terminal B.

The Mediterranean Kitchen’s menu includes freshly baked treats and breakfast for morning travellers, “˜mezzehs’, soups, salads, entrees and desserts. Mediterranean specialities include boerek (feta cheese and spinach puff pastry), cous cous salad with chicken, faki (vegetarian lentil soup), falafel wrap, vegetable moussaka and Moroccan almond cookies.

Icebox Café Founder and Owner Robert Siegmann said: “We are proud to bring The Mediterranean Kitchen, an exclusive Mediterranean experience to MIA, the largest gateway to the Latin America/Caribbean region and the second leading gateway to the US. Many mindful travellers have parlayed their healthy eating habits to what they consume at airports. The Mediterranean Kitchen offers travellers unexpectedly upscale comfort in the form of fresh, natural, well prepared delicious food served in a warm and friendly setting.”

Founded by Siegmann in 1998, Icebox Café is a wholly-owned independent company which owns and operates airport and street side locations nationwide, and has plans for growth in leading US airports as well as street side locations in South Florida.
