UAE. Dubai International is usually flooded with planes, passengers – and duty free shoppers – but flooding of the more literal kind has caused travel disruption at the airport over the past few days.
These dramatic images, taken by The National reporter Salam Al Amir, show the impact recent torrential rain has had at the airport.
Dubai Airports said operations had been “hampered by the knock-on effects of water-logging caused by heavy rainfall”.
The incessant rain has caused wider chaos across Dubai and the UAE – with the National Centre of Meteorology saying it is the highest recorded amount of rainfall in 24 years.
Dubai Airports has worked tirelessly with partners to restore full operations; the worst of the rainfall is now over although the unstable weather conditions are expected to continue until tomorrow (15 January).
