Our regular feature, brought to you in association with Duty Free Global from Ireland, celebrates memorable scenes, moments, launches and campaigns related to the global aviation and travel retail sphere.

UAE. Today’s images come from Dubai Duty Free, which is celebrating the upcoming Diwali (31 October) festival with promotional activities.

Between 29 October and 2 November, departing passengers at Dubai and Al Maktoum international airports have the opportunity to win one of ten Dubai Duty Free 40th Anniversary 10gm gold bars.

Customers who spend AED3,000 (US$816.76) or more at the gold shop can select a golden ball. Inside, they will find either a Diwali greeting or a message indicating they have won a 10gm gold bar. Two winners will be chosen daily throughout the promotion period.

Dubai Duty Free is also running a ‘Diwali Gold’ promotion offering AED5 (US$1.36) per gm discount for every AED8,000 (US$2178.03) spent on select gold items.

The promotion is split into three campaign periods: 11-13 October, 18-20 October and 25 October to 1 November.

Additionally, there are special discounts and offers across perfumes, confectionery and liquor products as well as free gifts with select electronic items.

Dubai Duty Free Managing Director Ramesh Cidambi said: “Indian travellers have always been pivotal to Dubai Duty Free’s success, accounting for 13-14% of our business. They also account for around 13% of passenger traffic at Dubai International Airport.

“With Diwali being the most significant festival for Indian nationals all over the world, it is a great opportunity for us to join in the celebrations and mark this special occasion.”

Diwali themed decorations are in place throughout the duty-free store, featuring popular products, while Indian staff dress in traditional attire.

Dubai Duty Free is also gearing up for a Diwali celebration on 30 October, which will be attended by H.E. Satish Kumar Sivan, Consul General of India to Dubai.

His Excellency will join Cidambi for a ceremonial lighting of Diwali lamps, a traditional Indian dance performance and cake cutting, which will be followed by Millennium Millionaire and Finest Surprise draws.

Diwali, one of the most popular Hindu festivals, symbolises the ‘victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance’.

Dubai Duty Free’s celebrations honour this cultural heritage while offering travellers an enhanced shopping experience during the festive season. ✈
