IRELAND. Today’s picture selection comes from Dublin Airport where in an inspiring display of community spirit, passengers and Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) colleagues raised an impressive €250,000 in 2024 for three worthy causes. This amount was matched by DAA, bringing the total to €500,000.
This remarkable fundraising effort benefits Cliona’s Foundation, A Little Lifetime Foundation and Cork Penny Dinners, each receiving €166,666. The three charities were chosen as part of DAA’s Charities of the Year programme, which empowers employees to nominate and support organisations making a tangible difference in people’s lives.
Cliona’s Foundation provides financial assistance to families of children with life-limiting or chronic complex care needs. The charity recognises the immense emotional and financial burden of non-medical costs – such as accommodation, travel and everyday expenses. Since its launch, Cliona’s Foundation has raised more than €4.5 million and has helped over 1,500 families across Ireland.
A Little Lifetime Foundation (formerly the Irish Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society) offers compassionate support to families experiencing the devastating loss of a baby. Founded in 1983 by bereaved parents, the organisation provides counselling, bereavement resources and support to help families navigate their grief with dignity and resilience.
Cork Penny Dinners is one of Cork’s longest-standing charitable organisations, dedicated to supporting those in need. Open seven days a week, all year round (including Christmas Day), it serves hot, nourishing meals with no questions asked. Entirely funded by donations from individuals and companies, Cork Penny Dinners offers a welcoming, non-judgemental space where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
The remarkable achievement underscores Dublin Airport’s strong philanthropic culture, where the collective efforts of travellers and staff continue to create meaningful change for its local communities. ✈
