A festive façade in national colours welcomes travellers this Independence Day

INDIA. Today’s images are courtesy of Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, which is celebrating India’s 79th Independence Day (15 August).

In a striking tribute, the airport has lit up the exteriors of terminals 1 and 2 in the saffron, white and green found on the Indian national flag, reflecting the spirit of freedom and unity.

A floral salute to the nation forms the ‘I Love Mumbai’ background

The occasion commemorates India’s independence from the UK in 1947, when British India was divided into two sovereign states, India and Pakistan, with the latter gaining independence a day earlier on 14 August.
