In Crisis – Travel Retail Voices: Joe Harvey, Shannon Retail Innovation

There’s something that’s goin’ round, that’s shutting our borders down
It’s a bad time for our sick and our old
CNN’s nightly lullaby, tells of hundreds more that’ve died
I shut off the TV and think all alone, how long can this go on?Jeff Orson, Pray

Welcome to In Crisis – Travel Retail Voices, our podcast series in which we speak to industry executives around the world to see how they and their businesses are coping with the COVID-19 crisis.

In this episode we speak to experienced inflight retail executive Joe Harvey (right), who has begun a new agency venture, Shannon Retail Innovation, named in tribute to the birthplace of duty free (Shannon, Ireland). He plans to represent up-and-coming, entrepreneurial brands in travel retail.

Joe has experienced the impact of the COVID-19 crisis first-hand, having exited inflight services company Retail inMotion amid its own crisis-related restructuring. But he had been planning his new venture for some time, he explains, and sees this change in his career as an opportunity.

He discusses that opportunity, talks about the kinds of brands he plans to partner with, and also assesses how the industry should aim to emerge from crisis.
