FRANCE/JAPAN. It is with regret that we report the death of Shu Uemura, the founder of the eponymous make-up and skin care brand which is now part of the L’Oréal group. He was 79.
In a statement L’Oréal described him as an exceptional individual, a pioneer in the art of make-up and skincare, who upheld the great Japanese tradition in all his creative work.
“We are all extremely affected by this very sad news,” commented L’Oréal CEO Jean-Paul Agon. “Mr Shu Uemura was an extraordinary individual with whom we had the great privilege of working with great passion and enthusiasm over a seven-year period.
“We are absolutely certain that his highly trained successors are wholeheartedly committed to follow in his unique and inspirational footsteps.
“The Shu Uemura brand is today one of the most original and modern luxury brands around.”
