InnoTRI introduces El Salvadorian Cihuatán Xaman rum to travel retail

Miami-based distributor InnoTRI has extended its Cihuatán rum range with Cihuatán Xaman, the first XO to be exported from El Salvador. A limited-edition Cihuatán Sahumerio is also new for 2020.

InnoTRI Co-founder and Manager Christoph Henkel said the first cases of the ultra-premium Cihuatán Sahumerio expression are en route to Europe and the US for distribution in travel retail.

A tribute to Mayan heritage: InnoTRI launches Cihuatán Xaman

Described as the “ultimate ode” to the Cihuatán valley’s Mayan heritage, the rum takes its name from Xaman, god of the North Star and protector of the valley in local mythology.

Cihuatán Xaman blends rums from El Paisnal in San Salvador, El Salvador. It is aged for 16 years in American oak ex-bourbon barrels and finished in Mayan Ceiba, one of the highest trees in the region and considered by the ancient Maya a symbol of the universe.

Cihuatán Xaman is a story teller, highlighting the tale of the Sleeping Woman, a Mayan goddess and guardian of the Cihuatán valley.

Legend has it that under the veil of night, the Sleeping Woman would look for the brightest star in the sky. This was Xaman, god of the North Star. She would ask Xaman for wisdom and prosperity for the valley and its people. Xaman would then rest atop a sacred Ceiba tree.

The Maya cherished the wood of their Ceiba trees and used it to craft items of protection for battle, charms to bring prosperity and vessels for travel. They also used the bark as food due to its medicinal properties.

Underlining its commitment to renewable sources, Cihuatán Xaman is presented in a FSC-certified carton gift box.

InnoTRI is also highlighting Cihuatán Sahumerio, a limited edition for 2020. The expression celebrates fire, regarded by the Maya as a benevolent and transformative force. Chantico, the goddess of fire and love, who, according to mythology liked to take the shape of an eagle or snake, is featured on every numbered bottle.

As reported,  InnoTRI signed an agreement with Alfa Brands to bring Cihuatán rums into the Canadian duty free market earlier this year. Alfa Brands will establish the El Salvadorian rum brand across the Canadian border store and airport duty free channels.
