SAUDI ARABIA. The much-anticipated Red Sea International Airport, which will bring travellers to the doorstep of some of the world’s most exciting tourism projects, has moved a step closer after the latest aircraft take-off and landing tests were successfully completed.
The milestone has been captured in a beautifully shot video by The Red Sea Development Company (TRSDC), and shared on social media by the company’s high-profile CEO John Pagano.
Designed by British architects Foster + Partners, the airport – part of TRSDC’s luxury tourism giga-project, The Red Sea Project – will welcome its first guests next year. The airport will be operated by daa International.

According to the designer, the new Red Sea Airport has been inspired by the forms of the desert, the green oasis and the sea. Foster + Partners said its goal is to “remove the usual hassle associated with travel by providing a tranquil and memorable experience for passengers from the moment they arrive”.
With its design, Foster + Partners said the airport’s terminal will bring the experience of a private aircraft terminal to every traveller by providing smaller, intimate spaces that feel luxurious and personalised.
The form of the terminal’s roof shells will cantilever on the landside and airside to provide shade to the passengers. An internal green oasis with an indigenously planted garden will form a green focus, creating a relaxed, resort-like atmosphere within the airport terminal.
The airport will be powered by 100% renewable energy.
