Intelligent Track Systems welcomes partnership with data science expert Qampo

Based on a survey by Intelligent Track Systems, 34% of intelligent trolley users made a purchase based on the content highlighted on the touchscreen

DENMARK/INTERNATIONAL. Intelligent wayfinding trolley company Intelligent Track Systems (ITS) is hailing the benefits of a new partnership with data science expert Qampo.

ITS’s parent company CPHI Holding has acquired a 20% stake in Qampo’s subsidiary Bagstage. The 24/7 operational and strategic management tool optimises baggage allocation for both incoming and outgoing flights.

ITS noted that Bagstage has delivered a +35% increase in effective capacity at Copenhagen Airport using Qampo’s decision science algorithms.

The company also underlined how Bagstage can benefit its system of boosting airport airside retail sales through its ‘intelligent’ trolleys, which are already in use in six airport locations worldwide. A further three airports are expected to be added to the network in the coming months.

As reported, ITS is as Exhibition Partner at The Trinity Forum 2023, which returns to China on 25-26 October in Hong Kong SAR.

The Trinity Forum, the industry’s most influential airport commercial revenues event, created by The Moodie Davitt Report in 2003, celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.

The event is co-organised with Airports Council International (ACI) Asia-Pacific and ACI World. Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) is the host for 2023.

Denmark-based Qampo’s advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning will be used to power the ITS ad conversion engine to drive-up penetration in airport shopping centres. Until now, ITS has been generating an 8% physical conversion rate.

Through their new partnership, Qampo and ITS teams will “test the limits of AI and machine learning in travel retail and are confident they can double the figure”.

Intelligent Track Systems CEO Morten Pankoke* said: “I am positive that Qampo’s industry-leading machine-learning team turbocharges ITS’s conversion rates and customer insights engine, unlocking further value for our customers and partners across our growing global airport footprint.

“We believe this deal will allow us to more than double our current engagement and conversion rates to 34% and 18% respectively, a figure we never anticipated when we launched the platform.”

Qampo Co-founder and CEO Ali Khatam commented: “We are thrilled to be growing our Bagstage joint venture with CPHI further in the travel vertical channel.

“Having co-developed a transformational baggage-handling algorithm, we are excited to see what we will discover by applying our AI expertise to the travel retail and airport space.”

The ITS system is already in use in six airports worldwide, with three further locations to be confirmed shortly

ITS noted that, by delivering relevant advertising to passengers, Qampo will “assist ITS in developing a new ad engine that is fine-tuned by machine learning”.

“Using improved analyses of existing (and future) passenger data, the engine will reveal new segments and insights to better pair ITS users with content relevant to their needs,” ITS said. “Machine learning will ensure that users are served ads and content that they are most likely to act on, adding value both to their passenger journey as well as ITS’s partner network.”

Data gathering and analysis is a key selling-point for the ITS system, which will now be boosted by Bagstage

Qampo will also assist ITS to unlock unique user insights through a first-of-its-kind data science-led evaluation of the patterns and behaviours that drive passenger spend in airports.

“By more effectively pairing ITS users with ads from our advertising partners we will help drive conversion rates and consumer satisfaction,” Pankoke added.

“We seek to mimic the benefits of such pairings – as other tech giants already do – by utilising all the available data to better understand and service our users with the content they find most relevant.

“It is our mission to provide travellers everywhere with a more relaxed and pleasant airside shopping experience coupled with easy airport navigation. We believe Qampo is the right partner to help us leverage data in a more customer-focused way.

“Qampo shares our values and goals in creating a better, more efficient content platform that will drive customer experience across all ITS partner airports,” Pankoke concluded.
