INDONESIA. In a follow-up to earlier news that the Inti Dufree Promosindo/DFS alliance has won the specialist retail concession at Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport, DFS has announced that it has been awarded six of the new retail concessions.
These concessions cover Luxury Retail, Premium Retail, High Street, Fashion Watches & Sunglasses, Accessories and the new retail concept store featuring locally sourced Balinese lifestyle products – Bali Living.
DFS and Inti Dufree Promosindo (IDP), Indonesia’s largest duty free operator, were not selected to continue operating the airport’s beauty and liquor concessions.
DFS Group COO Michael Schriver said: “We have been investing in the Ngurah Rai International Airport for more than 20 years, and we are delighted to continue our interest by operating the new retail concessions at this newly expanded international terminal.
“While we are of course disappointed to lose the core concessions that we have run for over two decades, we would like to congratulate Dufry on their achievement and wish them well in the new concession. We would also like to commend Angkasa Pura and GVK for an exceptionally well-run tender process. We are very excited for the opportunity to now bring even more new ideas and innovation to Bali to this new terminal, especially in the categories of fashion, watches and Bali Living.”
Inti Dufree Promosindo President Director Budi Wong added: “Together with DFS, Inti Dufree Promisando is extremely pleased to be awarded the retail concessions, and will work closely with Angkasa Pura I to achieve our shared aim of creating one of Asia’s best shopping environments, while delivering memorable customer experiences.”
Since the spring of 2012, the Ngurah Rai International Airport has been undergoing extensive expansion, which included the construction of its new international terminal, which will open in September 2013.
Bidders to become the new retail concessionaire at the terminal were evaluated over four months during a rigorous selection process, according to DFS. One of the most important criteria was “their ability to support the airport in delivering upon its commitment to significantly enhance the travel experience for the increasing number of tourists expected to visit the resort island”, the travel retailer said.
