NETHERLANDS. HMSHost has expanded its US$40 million Amsterdam Schiphol airport operation with the opening of Murphy’s Irish Pub.
Ireland’s Ambassador to the Netherlands, Richard Townsend, opened the outlet at an official gathering by drawing the inaugural glass of beer.
Centrally located in the airport’s D concourse, Murphy’s delivers an authentic Irish pub experience to Schiphol travellers.
“This concept is truly unique,” said Walter Seib, managing director of the HMSHost Schiphol operation. “Capturing the genuine essence of Irish culture was extremely important to us. Staff members conducted extensive research in Ireland to make sure we got everything exactly right. We also recruited a number of Irish nationals to join our team. Their knowledge and background will be integral to our operation here.”
HMSHost developed the Murphy’s concept together with interior designer Menno Rombach from the Heineken Brewery and Schiphol’s Department of Food & Beverage Accommodation in the Commercial Affairs Division.
US-based airport retalier HMSHost has been present at Schiphol airport since 1995, where it also operates the Hotel Mercure.
