NORWAY. SSP Group has opened the first Jamie’s Deli outside the UK at Oslo Airport. This is UK celebrity chef Jamie Oliver’s newest restaurant concept and his first opening in Norway.
Jamie’s Deli is the first of 29 food & beverage units SSP is opening as part of a major expansion project at Oslo Airport. The airport extension officially opens on 27 April 2017.
SSP has a strong presence at Oslo Airport, having operated there since 1998.
The deli serves rustic ‘Jamie-style’ food that is “fast, honest and responsibly sourced”, SSP claimed.
The meat served has high welfare credentials and is traceable to sustainable sources, as is the fish, while the fresh produce will be sourced as locally as possible, the company added.
Jamie’s Deli is said to offer healthy balanced choices as well as treats including freshly baked pastries. A smoothie station provides fresh drinks, blended to order.
The deli environment includes hot food displays, a pizza oven and open kitchens.
SSP Norway Managing Director Morten Solberg Nilsen said: “Jamie Oliver is one of the world’s best-known chefs and his name is instantly recognisable here in Norway.
“This new deli, which has been specifically designed to meet the needs of the airport passenger from breakfast time to late in the evening, will be very popular with passengers at Oslo, and will be the perfect complement to the excellent range of brands SSP will be offering at this important travel location.”
Oslo Airport Commercial Director Torgeir Kjos Sørensen said: “We are excited to welcome Jamie Oliver to Oslo Airport. We are certain this will be well received, and are looking forward to further strengthening the food & beverage offer at the airport.”
SSP will also open a Jamie’s Italian restaurant at the airport in April 2017 as part of the next stage of the development. A Ritazza coffee shop, also from the SSP stable of brands, opened at the airport today.
In other news, SSP plans to launch Jamie’s Deli at Düsseldorf Airport in early 2017.
