CHINA. In big breaking news, the joint venture between JD.com and its French partner Lagardère Travel Retail has entered into a cooperation agreement with China National Service Corporation (CNSC), aiming to build a more convenient and reliable duty free shopping experience for customers.
Sinopharm subsidiary CNSC’s duty free business operates across China embracing airport, sea port and downtown channels as well as Hainan island’s offshore duty free sector.

A statement said: “The cooperation will leverage all sides’ advantageous resources to strengthen CNSC’s online and offline duty free business, cross-border ecommerce and so on. Meanwhile, it will also promote the digital intelligent transformation of the duty free industry from the traditional business model.”
It continued: “With policies in favor of cross-border ecommerce being introduced, more and more traditional duty free companies are seeking digital transformations.”

As first revealed by The Moodie Davitt Report, JD.com struck a joint venture with Lagardère Travel Retail last September.
The joint-venture company, JD Worldwide-Lagardère (HK) Company Limited, based in Hong Kong, aims to “comprehensively expand” its duty free-related business.
In a statement the company said that it aims to achieve that by capitalising on Lagardère’s years of offline experience in traditional travel retail and luxury retail operations, as well as JD.com’s industry-leading ability in terms of supply chain, retail infrastructure, and omnichannel operation capabilities.
