UK. Diageo continues to dominate the Top 50 spirits brands in global travel retail, according to drinks intelligence service provider The IWSR (International Wine & Spirit Record).
Diageo’s Johnnie Walker brand took the top spot on the list. Johnnie Walker, together with Baileys and Smirnoff – also owned by Diageo – accounted for three of the top five brands. These brands were also the three largest in the channel, respectively.
Maxxium, buoyed by its four partner companies – Beam Global, Edrington Group, V&S Group and Remy Cointreau – had 13 brands in the Top 50. The past year saw Maxxium’s sales rising by +3.8% to 3.08 million cases, representing a 19.6% share of the overall market.
Pernod Ricard tied with Diageo with nine brands on the list, followed by Bacardi Limited and Brown-Forman with three brands each.
Brown-Forman was the only company among the Top 10 companies to post double-digit growth. This was boosted by the continued growth of the group’s Jack Daniel’s brand and the revitalization of both Finlandia and Southern Comfort.
The Top 50 list also included a number of brands from independent companies: Belvedere’s Danzka brand (which it recently acquired from V&S), Camus Cognac, Illva Di Saronno, Drambuie and Grand Marnier.
Overall travel retail wine and spirits sales increased by +1.1% to 23.2 million nine-litre cases in 2006 – the third consecutive annual rise, according to The IWSR.
