Jonathan Rayner: Tasked with rebuilding Luton Airport’s commercial offer after COVID-19 sent traffic plummeting

The new recruit succeeds Jonathan Pollard, who leaves London Luton to take up a similar role at London Gatwick this month. Rayner will be responsible for growing and developing the airport’s commercial activity by working with airlines, retailers and other business partners.

He has spent more than seven years performing senior roles at Edinburgh Airport, rising to his current position of Aviation and Digital Director.

Earlier in his career, Rayner held commercial and operational roles in UK airports including London Southend, Newcastle International and East Midlands.

Although passenger numbers were down -74% year-on-year in July, London Luton – which served 17.99 million passengers last year – claimed to be delivering the strongest recovery of any major UK airport.

London Luton Airport CEO Alberto Martin said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming Jonathan to the LLA family. His experience across the aviation industry will be invaluable as we look to the future and focus on building a business which will continue to play an important role in the economic recovery of the UK and the local area.”
