Natural beauty brand Jurlique, part of Pola Orbis Holdings Group, has achieved B Corp certification.
Certified B Corp businesses meet the highest standards for sustainability, public transparency, legal accountability and social and environmental performance.
The B Impact assessment is a rigorous certification process that follows strict criteria. Companies must achieve a score of 80 points or higher, across five areas of governance, workers, environment, community and customers, to achieve B Corp certification.
Jurlique’s journey to B Corp was three years in the making. From Adelaide Hills in Australia, the brand is a strong promoter of regenerative agriculture and biodynamic farming.
Jurlique has planted 15,000 trees since 2009 and has reduced its water consumption by -20% since 2015. It has built 100% solar-powered warehouse facilities and ensured that zero waste went to landfill since 2016, in line with its 1% for the Planet pledge.
In 2022, Jurlique created a formulation charter that has seen it adhere to stringent sourcing, supply chain, lifecycle assessment and low-impact production protocols.
The brand is a signatory to the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation and has partnered with TerraCycle to tackle hard-to-recycle items. This collaboration has led to over 150,000 pieces of empty packaging being recycled since 2018.
The Jurlique Green Team has launched several environmental and educational events for over a decade. The events support local communities, promote climate action and rejuvenate areas devastated by bushfires.
In a statement, the company said: “By becoming a Certified B Corp, we now hold ourselves, as an organisation, legally and transparently accountable to the highest standards of ethics, impact and sustainability. But our almost three-year journey to B Corp certification is only the beginning. We will always strive to do what is right, even if it is not always easy.” ✈
