HONG KONG. Hong Kong International Airport’s HK$100 million golf course is expected to open at the end of 2006 with a large-scale charity golf tournament attended by VIPs and celebrities, according to King Power Group (Hong Kong).

Airport Management Services (AMS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of King Power, oversees the investment and operation of the nine-hole golf course.

Located to the east of the existing passenger terminal, the course is set within an attractive environment with a landscape of greens, artificial lakes and extensive sand bunkers. It is also Hong Kong’s first nine-hole golf course featuring an ‘Island Green’.

The golf course incorporates coaching services and teaching resources for golfers at all levels. It also provides a comprehensive range of facilities including equipment rental, luggage storage, restaurant, a club house, a pro-shop and lighting for night-time golfing.

Dr David J Pang, Chief Executive Officer of Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA), said: “Upon completion of the golf course, HKIA will add another magnificent amenity to serve the enlarging population of passengers, visitors and the airport community. This is a further illustration that HKIA is more than an infrastructure. Indeed, it is a place where people encounter a unique and memorable total airport experience.”

AA Commercial Director Hans Bakker, commented: “As part of our ongoing commitment to maintain service excellence, we continue to introduce new innovation and elements in airport services so as to amuse visitors all within the airport island. The new golf course is destined to be another signature facility which will further enhance HKIA’s positioning as a destination in its own right.”

King Power Group Director Ayub Khan said: “Leveraging from our operating experience in both the international and local environment, together with the synergistic effect from our experience in retailing, catering and leisure businesses, we can offer good value and facilities to our customers and make it a successful business component in our Group starting with the SkyCity Nine Eagles Golf Course.”
