King Power (HK) underlines support for The Smile Train with golf tournament at Hong Kong International Airport – 13/06/07

HONG KONG. “˜Turning Tears into Smiles’, the big travel retail industry charity dinner on 5 October on behalf of children’s cleft surgery programme The Smile Train, received another major boost this week. King Power Group (Hong Kong) announced it will hold a nine-hole golf tournament in a unique setting on the day of the dinner – with all proceeds going to the cause.

King Power subsidiary Airport Management Services has been awarded the contract to run the SkyCity Nine Eagles Golf Course at Hong Kong International Airport. The course opens for business soon.

“˜Turning Tears into Smiles’ is being co-organised by The Moodie Report and Hugo Boss and is attracting enormous support from the industry. The Smile Train last year offered free cleft surgery to 42,000 children in over 60 countries, particularly developing markets. It costs just US$250 and takes only 45 minutes to change a child’s life forever with a simple operation.

King Power Group Managing Director Antares Cheng said: “We’re delighted to climb onboard The Smile Train. The charity dinner is a great event for a great cause that touches the hearts of us all. If we act together we can change the lives of many young children.”

King Power Travel Retail & Duty Free Managing Director Sunil Tuli added: “This is a fun way to add value to the dinner, and one that will help draw overseas visitors to the event. We’ll be organising a special Smile Train trophy and ensuring that the “˜prize money’ goes directly to helping little children.”

In other news this week, the Rémi Chadapaux-led Scental team became the latest company to reserve a table. The Asia Pacific division of L’Oréal Produits de Luxe International Travel Retail joins all the leading Hong Kong travel retailers – DFS Group, Nuance-Watson (HK), Sky Connection, King Power (HK) and Airport Authority Hong Kong – and many other retailers, suppliers, airlines and trade associations in supporting the cause.

Besides seat and table bookings, pledged cash donations have already climbed above US$60,000, four months before the event, which will include further fund-raising activities on the evening.

Venue details are currently being finalised and an announcement will be made soon.

Pledges can be made at all levels to suit company and individual budgets – remember that for just US$250 you can change one child’s life forever.

We need the industry’s support – please put the date in your diary now and do whatever you can.
