58% Kinmen Kaoliang Liquor is KKL’s best-selling product |
Kinmen Kaoliang Liquor Inc, the Taiwanese local government-owned white spirits company, showcased its premium and super-premium ranges at the TFWA Asia Pacific fair in May 2013.
Founded in 1952, the company specialises in the manufacture of twice-fermented and triple-distilled white spirits and is the number one brand in the Taiwanese market with over 80% market share.
Kinmen’s strategy is to expand internationally in the Asia Pacific markets and particularly China, where the company has an office in Xiamen.
The products, which have a high alcohol content ranging from about 38%abv to 60%abv, are well known by Chinese travellers, according to the company. Kinmen employs different manufacturing technology from Chinese liquor firms.
Among the products on show was the company’s most popular product, 58% Kinmen Kaoliang Liquor, known as the “Platinum Dragon”. The 58%abv white spirit is distilled by ancient techniques adopting a solid fermentation process.
Also on display was Good Fortune and Longevity Kinmen Kaoliang Liquor (56%abv), aged for 16 years, presented in a red and gold ceramic bottle and a red outer box, both featuring a peony pattern.
The 75cl vase-shaped bottle depicts the Chinese characters “Bai-shou” symbolising great fortune and longevity.
Introduced for the company’s 60th anniversary, the Year of the Dragon, is Imperial Dragon Liquor, presented in a round jade porcelain design derived from Chinese jade “Bi”, meaning happiness and satisfaction.
Presented in a wooden box, the 75cl bottle’s design concept centres on coiled twin dragons. The 50%abv product is blended with selected winter cellar liquor.
Royal Banquet Liquor (56%abv) is inspired by Taipei’s famous 101 building. Resembling the character of 101, it signifies the status of drinkers is as high as the building, according to KKL.
The central round disc on the 75cl bottle is derived from KKL’s logo, similar to an ancient coin and implying great fortune. Following an ancient distilling technique, the liquor is stored in a military tunnel for five years.
In addition, Dragon Praise 60th Anniversary Liquor, implying the blessing “All the best” for KKL’s 60th anniversary, uses royal purple and gold colours as its overall visual design theme. The specially blended liquor is 60%abv.
