Korean Air shatters sales record for a single flight on Seoul Incheon-Frankfurt route – 19/07/07

SOUTH KOREA. Korean Air, the world’s leading airline by inflight sales, has achieved another milestone: record sales for a single flight of US$40,968.

The record was broken on board a Seoul Incheon-Frankfurt flight (KE905/6) on 21 June. The previous high of US$38,430 was achieved in May 2006.

Korean Air Manager Hotel & Inflight Sales Division BJ Choi told The Moodie Report: “We expect that this record will soon be broken by one of the summer peak season flights coming up in the months of July and August.”

In May, Korean Air shattered all previous monthly sales records, with inflight revenue of US$17.7 million.

In 2006 Korean Air set an all-time annual sales high of US$170 million, up from US$154 million set a year earlier. The airline said it was intent on breaking the US$200 million sales barrier in 2007.

Cosmetics and liquor are Korean Air’s key categories, accounting last year for around 36% and 32% of sales respectively. Koreans were the key buyers last year, generating 82% of sales, ahead of Americans with 6.8%, Japanese with 6.7%, Chinese (1.9%) and others (2.6%).
