SWITZERLAND. Swiss prestige skincare brand La Prairie has partnered with Dufry to unveil ‘The Cobalt Night’ installation at Zürich Airport.
The immersive pop-up, launched in celebration of La Prairie’s new Skin Caviar Nighttime Oil, is located at Airside Centre-Stage Level 1. It was officially opened on 3 September and will run until 31 October.
It is the result of a collaboration between La Prairie and digital artist Maotik, a leading figure in the art world who produces interactive, audio-visual performance-based pieces that challenge perspectives of time and space.
The experience features engaging and dynamic content that invites travellers to discover the story behind Skin Caviar Nighttime Oil and the breakthrough caviar innovation that inspired it.

The pop-up blends sound, light and physical space to challenge visitors’ senses and offer a heightened experience of the installation.
Travellers begin their Cobalt Night journey by scanning a QR Code that unlocks a digital experience. A virtual outpost, comprising four chapters, then guides them through La Prairie’s Swiss skincare heritage and Skin Caviar innovations over the years.
The four chapters are Artistic Experience, Sensorial Discovery, Caviar Science and Cobalt Booth.
The virtual outpost also features a documentary style video telling the story of La Prairie’s artist collaboration with Maotik and a #CobaltNight Instagram filter.
In addition, the physical Cobalt Night space features a private consultation area where customers can get skincare consultations from La Prairie’s beauty assistants using the brand’s special mirroring technique and Art of Perfection ritual.
An online booking tool also allows travellers to book the experiences they are most interested in, linking the virtual reality to real-life experience.

Skin Caviar Nighttime Oil is a ground-breaking new skincare innovation that works with the skin’s natural circadian rhythm to deliver unparalleled line-smoothing efficacy.
Caviar has always been a core ingredient for the Swiss prestige skincare house. Marking a new chapter in its legacy of caviar innovation, La Prairie scientists discovered a rare natural ‘Caviar Retinol’ molecule that delivers unmatched line-smoothing efficacy.
The molecule, exclusive to La Prairie, can only be extracted at night through a specially-designed process. The elusive component is made of caviar lipids and caviar-derived retinol that effectively removes fine lines at night.

For La Prairie’s presence in Art Basel 2021, Maotik revealed Sense of Blue, a multi-sensorial immersive installation that transports viewers into the depths of night.
The piece was composed of three stages that plunges viewers gradually into darkness using motion sensors, video projections and hidden digital algorithms. The installation marries a mysterious minimal aesthetic with technical sophistication that enables viewers to use movement to shape their environment through shifting light facets.
Commenting on his work for La Prairie, Maotik said: “Art and science are fundamental notions within my work. By using new technologies and experimenting with them, I can combine different media together, giving me the possibility to explore new artistic languages with limitless prospects.”
