TANZANIA. Lagardère Travel Retail and local partner Bevco Limited have opened two duty free stores at Dar es Salaam Julius Nyerere International Airport.
As reported earlier this year, the partners captured an exclusive concession for the stores in the new Terminal 3 at the airport, with the contract awarded by the Tanzanian Airports Authority (TAA).

The stores, covering 206sq m and 160sq m respectively, feature all core duty free categories, travel accessories, souvenirs and snacking, under the Aelia Duty Free brand. Lagardère Travel Retail said it would promote and leverage local expertise and deliver Sense of Place in the stores through Tanzanian culture, architecture and cuisine.
In a statement on LinkedIn, Lagardère Travel Retail said it had been “quite a journey” to this point. “We are happy to be welcoming travellers to the first duty free of international standard in Tanzania. Alongside a broad range of global brands, we offer a great selection of local products representing the best of Tanzania’s craftmanship. Thanks to all colleagues and partners who have worked so hard to make this happen. We are excited to be building on this success to bring our expertise to more travellers across the region.”
The move represents a Tanzanian market debut for Lagardère Travel Retail, which said it aims to “further capitalise on the region’s resilient attractiveness and air traffic”.
