ICELAND. Lagardère Travel Retail has emerged victorious following airport authority Isavia’s latest tender for three new restaurants at Keflavik International Airport.
The bid was hotly contested with five qualified parties all submitting offers and participating in the negotiation process.
“Getting five parties into the process who were assessed as qualified is particularly pleasing and shows that operations at the terminal are in demand,” Isavia said. “In the end, two parties submitted tenders, and it was Lagardère who ultimately came out on top.”
Lagardère Travel Retail said it will open two locations under the BAKAÐ name, featuring a fresh bread and pizzas offer, healthy juices, salads and high-quality drinks from renowned Icelandic tea and coffee specialist Te og kaffi.
Baker Ágúst Einthórsson will lead the product design and collaborate with Lagardère for the baked goods.
The third F&B offering is a new Loksins Café & Bar, formerly the highly popular Loksins Bar. It will be located in a new and bigger space, with new items on the menu. The venue will be more enclosed to ensure better acoustics. Local designer HAF STUDIO has designed the units and overall image. Lagardère Travel Retail won a Global Highly Commended recognition at the 2016 Airport Food & Beverage (FAB) Awards in 2016, organised by The Moodie Davitt Report {Note: FAB returns this year on 11-12 September. Discussions are still being held with prospective hosts and an announcement will be made in coming weeks.}

“We are extremely pleased to have Iceland’s leading bakers and the strong Icelandic brands such as Te og Kaffi enter the airport in collaboration with Lagardère, who are experts in complex catering operations at airports,” said Keflavik International Airport Commercial Manager Gunnhildur Erla Vilbergsdóttir.
“Keflavík International Airport is in constant development, and as the number of passengers increases the needs become more diverse. As previously announced, Jómfrúin and Elda will open in the spring, and with Loksins Café and Bar and Bakað, we believe that we are successful in meeting the different needs of passengers and making Iceland stand out.”
BakaBaka Founder and baker Ágúst Einþórsson said: “We are very much looking forward to starting operations at the terminal. We will bake everything on-site and plan to offer a variety of fresh food in a short time. We will offer amazing coffee and general joy.” ✈
