CHINA. China National Service Corporation for Chinese Personnel Working Abroad (CNSC) opened its duty free arrivals shop at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport on 29 August.
As reported, the store is a landmark development for the state-owned enterprise, as it represents CNSC’s airport duty free debut.
Earlier this year CSNC beat off stiff opposition from the other two short-listed candidates, Zhuhai Duty Free and Shenzhen Duty Free, for the contract.
The 572sq m store will eventually sell a broad range of duty free categories and brands. CNSC Deputy Manager Duty-Free Business Department for Inbound Chinese Jacky Yan told The Moodie Davitt Report that a wide selection of liquor & tobacco items and big cosmetics brands will be added in coming weeks.
In related news, CNSC is also preparing to open its new arrivals duty free store at Dalian Zhoushuizi International Airport. As revealed by The Moodie Davitt Report, CNSC won a five-year concession earlier this year. Dalian is a major city in Northeast China and acts as a financial, shipping and logistics hub for Northeast Asia. It is the busiest gateway in Northeast China and the country’s 16th-busiest.
The two CNSC awards followed the landmark news in February 2016, first revealed by The Moodie Davitt Report and Duty Free Expert, that central government had authorised bids for licences at 19 nominated inbound locations, including airports and seaports.
