Rare treasure: Château Lafite 1895 |
UAE. A rare 120 year-old bottle of Château Lafite 1895 has been sold by Le Clos at Dubai International for US$17,000.
Le Clos, which runs several fine wines and luxury spirits stores at the airport, said the Lafite was of the jewels in its collection. The wine was purchased by an international wine collector.
The retailer said the bottle was “treasured for its age and history” and was produced just 40 years after the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855, awarding Château Lafite First Growth status. It is extremely rare to find a bottle of this age from Chateau Lafite, or any of the Bordeaux first growths, Le Clos said.
General Manager Ben Odgers said: “We are committed to offering customers a diverse range of the world’s best wines and spirits from US$28 through to some of the most sought-after products, such as the recent sale of Chateau Lafite 1895.
“The collectors’ market is still buoyant in Dubai, recently having also sold classics such as a Château Lafite 1961, Cheval Blanc 1961 magnum, The Macallan Fine & Rare 1946, and many others.”
