Limited edition Guinness expression debuts at ARI’s The Loop

IRELAND. New limited edition Guinness The 1798 Double Extra Stout is launching exclusively at ARI’s The Loop in Dublin and Cork airports.

Described as “unique”, the stout is brewed from a classic recipe and is said to be Guinness’ first premium beer for travel retail. Specially packaged, corked and caged in a 750ml bottle (9%abv), the new expression will retail at The Loop for €20.

Over 200 years ago in 1798, pioneer Arthur Guinness commissioned several large wooden vats to be constructed in Vat House Number 1 at St James’s Gate in Dublin. These vats were used to mature stout for up to 18 months before it was exported overseas. Oak from the Original Vat House #1 has been used to mature Guinness 1798 Double Extra Stout, which is said to provide tastes of chocolate, vanilla and liquorice with a distinct wood aroma.

Dublin and Cork are the first airports in the world to welcome the exclusive brew, and the only retailers in Ireland and Europe to sell the limited batch of the rare stout.

Diageo GTME Europe Regional Director Dayalan Nayager commented: “The introduction of Guinness 1798 Double Extra Stout is an incredibly exciting opportunity for Diageo GTME, it is the first premium beer we have offered in travel retail. This opens up a whole new category for us in the channel and we’re starting with a strong offering, one of our most popular global brands.

“We’re delighted to partner with ARI Ireland to bring this innovation to travel retail and exclusively in Dublin and Cork Airports. We know that travellers are looking for innovative products they can’t purchase at home so it seems fitting to offer this very special, limited edition Guinness bottling in the home of the brand, Ireland.”

ARI Ireland Head of Retail Jackie McDonagh said: “We’re delighted to secure another exclusive for The Loop with the exceptional Guinness Stout Limited Edition. We’re renowned for having one of the most diverse ranges of liquor in airport retail and this stout is a very welcome addition to our ever-expanding selection of craft beers and stouts.

“It’s the perfect gift for Guinness aficionados and novices alike and I’ve no doubt that passengers will be very keen to try this exclusive new brew. It’s also fitting, given Guinness’ world famous Irish heritage, that Dublin and Cork are the only airports in the world to stock this one of a kind limited edition stout.”
