CANADA. Inniskillin Wines has turned the heads of the international wine community with its success at Vinitaly in Verona, Italy, winning the “Gran Medaglia D’Oro”, for its 2001 Riesling Icewine VQA Niagara Peninsula.
The “Gran Medaglia D’Oro” is awarded per wine category, and Inniskillin’s first place honour was in the class of still wines described as “naturally sweet.”
This year has been particularly rewarding for Inniskillin’s co-founder and master of Icewine making, Karl Kaiser. Since his “Grand Prix d’Honneur” at VinExpo in 1991, Kaiser has consistently received international awards for his Icewines.
