UK. London Heathrow Airport served 7.17 million passengers in May, up by +6.7% year-on-year and eclipsing the 7 million mark for the first time in the month.
In the latest rolling 12-month period, Heathrow passenger traffic hit an all-time high of 81.5 million. The airport company said more traffic records are likely to fall over the summer months.

Among the latest commercial milestones highlighted by Heathrow is this week’s opening of the UK’s first branch of Jones the Grocer in Terminal 2. Managed by TRG Concessions, it serves freshly-made meals and artisanal produce. Watch out for a further on location report this week.
Other landmarks include the tenth anniversary of Terminal 2 – The Queen’s Terminal. Since 2014 it has seen 148 million passengers travelling to more than 30 countries on over one million flights.

New research published for that anniversary showed many passengers indulge themselves at the start of a trip, with cake for breakfast, an impulse gift or a morning tipple. In May alone, passengers bought 40,000 Toblerones.
Heathrow CEO Thomas Woldbye said: “We have a winning team at Heathrow which has proven that we have put Covid firmly behind us. Thanks to their extraordinary efforts we are now giving record numbers of people the chance to connect smoothly with the world. Supporting 81 million journeys doesn’t just help families to make wonderful holiday memories, importantly it is about the vital trade and business links a hub like Heathrow creates for the UK’s economy.” ✈
